SSL Certificates
What is an SSL Certificate?
SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer, is a protocol for encrypting internet traffic and verifying server identity. When installed on a web server, it activates the padlock and the https protocol and allows secure connections from a web server to a browser.
Why do websites need an SSL certificate?
A website needs an SSL certificate in order to keep user data secure, prevent attackers from creating bogus version of the site, verify ownership of the website, and protect your sensitive information such as bank account information, usernames, passwords, etc.
Building customer trust or obtaining customers’ confidence in your business is a Must. The best way to accomplish this trust is to install an SSL certificate.
What are the different types of SSL certificates?
There are three different types of SSL certificates. Each provides a different level of security:
Extended Validation Certificate (EV SSL): This type of certificate has the highest level of security. It is a must to have for websites that handle sensitive information. Users can know if a website holds an EV certificate if the browser’s URL bar contains a padlock and the company name is listed in green.
Organization Validated Certificate (OV SSL): has a moderate level of trust and is a good option for pubic-facing websites that deal with less sensitive transactions.
Domain Validated Certificate (DV SSL): has the lowest level of trust, typically for blogs or informational websites.
